Solar Energy Park to Help Ford Meet Carbon-Free Goal

Ford Motor Company and DTE Energy recently broke ground on Cold Creek Solar Park, a new 100-megawatt solar array in Michigan, supporting Ford’s goal of attributing 100 percent carbon-free and renewable energy to its Michigan manufacturing facilities by 2027. Cold Creek Solar Park is the first of several parks being built to supply energy for Ford’s purchase of 650 megawatts of renewable energy from DTE’s CleanVision MIGreenPower program.
This initiative will have a positive impact that goes beyond Ford. According to Amir Mirshahi, Director, Utilities & Energy Infrastructure, “Ford is using our scale and resources to help support energy infrastructure that benefits all electric consumers in the local community. Those solar arrays won’t just be powering up Ford plants – they’ll be helping to make the entire power grid in Michigan more reliable and resilient for both businesses and individual households.”
Ford’s renewable energy purchase is the largest of its kind in U.S. history and will help the company avoid as much as 600,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually. This effort will help Ford achieve the larger goals of using 100% carbon-free electricity in all global manufacturing facilities by 2035, and achieving carbon neutrality across Ford vehicles, operations and supply chain by 2050.
